The “Rodent to Rodent” album, sequenced and mastered in 1984 but actually recorded
over the previous 5 years, was me dealing in my oblique way with the abrupt end of
my long-standing relationship with Matt’s mom, Nancy, who had invited me out of her life
shortly before our son came into the world.

I put the album together at the end of the summer of 1984. Like all of my albums, the
songs were assembled over a period of years. After I put it together I knew it was the best
thing I’d ever done but I also knew I couldn’t release it. I found the palpable sense of hurt
and despair too much to handle. I put it away and basically retired from playing my own
music for over 20 years.
